Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in July 2022 were an estimated 9.6 million metric tons (Mt), essentially unchanged from shipments in July 2021, according to the latest USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through July totaled an estimated 62.0 Mt, an increase of 3.3% from those for the same period in 2021.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in July 2022 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan; these states accounted for 38.9% of cement produced. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia) received 37.5% of July shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 219,000 metric tons in July 2022, an 8.3% increase from those in July 2021. Shipments for the year through July totaled an estimated 1.5 Mt, an increase of 6.0% from those for the same period in 2021. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in July 2022 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and California; these states received 61.2% of July shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 7.2 Mt in July 2022, an increase of 6.9% from production in July 2021. Production for the year through July totaled an estimated 44.3 Mt, a slight increase from the same period in 2021. The leading clinker-producing states in July 2022 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
